Lottery and Games of Chance Lead Betting Preferences in Austria

When it comes to betting behaviors in Austria, recent data paints a picture of a diverse landscape with a blend of habits and motivations that reveal people’s preferences and tendencies. Lottery and games of chance, such as Powerball or bingo, topped the list, with around 41% of respondents engaging in these activities. Other forms of betting, like sit-down slots or gaming machines, were slightly less popular. However, sports betting is also a significant part of the landscape, with 39% of respondents placing bets on sporting events online or through apps. In fact, 74.6% of Austrian bettors prefer to place their sports bets online through mobile apps or websites, while others still opt for in-person betting at sportsbooks or casinos.

Over 40% of Austrians Maintain Consistent Betting Frequency

In Austria, sports betting habits over the past year show varied trends. While 43% of respondents maintained their usual betting frequency, 27.1% reported betting less, possibly due to shifting personal priorities or reduced interest. When examining how often people bet, there is significant variation in frequency. For many, betting remains an occasional activity—about 16.6% place bets just once a month. Meanwhile, a smaller, more committed segment bets almost daily, making up a small protion of the betting population.

Money and Thrill Drive Betting Motivations

Money remains the strongest motivator across the board, with 42.1% of respondents citing the hope of winning as a key reason to bet. However, the thrill of betting itself and the added excitement it brings to watching sports also resonate, noted by about 25.7% of bettors.

Live Betting Gains Popularity in Austria

There’s also a clear interest in real-time betting, with 55.4% of Austrians expressing a desire to bet as they watch sports. This high interest points to the importance of in-the-moment experiences, where bettors feel more engaged when they can place wagers in sync with the live action.
