Agriculture Sector Contribution to GDP in Vietnam (1990-2022)

Vietnam’s agriculture sector contributed significantly to GDP, starting at 38.7% in 1990, but has declined steadily to around 11.9% by 2022. The reduction aligns with Vietnam’s economic reforms (Đổi Mới) and industrialization efforts, driving growth in manufacturing and services. Agriculture’s GDP share decreased sharply in the early 2000s, stabilizing as the economy diversified.

Despite the drop, agriculture remains crucial for rural employment and food security. The slight increase to 12.7% in 2020 highlights its resilience during the pandemic, emphasizing its role in Vietnam’s balanced economic structure.
