In Peru, the concept of cryptocurrency is still something many are becoming familiar with. While 58% of the population is unfamiliar with it and 25% know a little bit about it. Despite this, around 34% of people have actually used or owned cryptocurrency.

Interest in Crypto Is Growing

It’s also noteworthy that when it comes to interest in cryptocurrencies, many Peruvians are caught in a space of cautious curiosity. Almost half of those surveyed expressed a desire to learn more, even if they don’t yet own any cryptocurrency. On the flip side, a significant portion of the population simply isn’t interested, while another group are still skeptical, worried about the risks involved.

Lack of Knowledge Limits Cryptocurrency Adoption

One of the major hurdles holding people back from embracing cryptocurrency in Peru seems to be a lack of understanding, with 41% of people indicating this as their biggest barrier. Right behind that, security concerns are another major issue for a large number of the population.

Cash Remains the Preferred Payment

Despite the rise of digital payments, there’s still a deep-rooted preference for traditional methods in Peru. A surprising 48% still prefer paying with cash whenever possible. However, mobile payment options are gaining some traction with a small group stores credit card information on their phones. The country also witness a slowly growing interest in digital money, with 11% have actually used cryptocurrency to make a purchase.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Dominate the Peruvian Market

Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the leading cryptocurrencies in Peru, reflecting their dominance in the global market. While the country's crypto adoption is still in its early stages, this data suggests a growing foundation for digital assets. As awareness increases and concerns around security, regulation, and usability are addressed, adoption rates could rise, potentially driving broader market participation in the future.
