High Cryptocurrency Awareness, Modest Adoption in Serbia

In Serbia, cryptocurrency awareness is relatively high, with half of the population claiming familiarity with digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, among those who have yet to explore the world of cryptocurrency, around 17% are entirely unfamiliar with it. It paints a picture of a nation where knowledge exists, but widespread adoption and understanding may still need some nurturing. When it comes to owning or using cryptocurrency, the numbers are more modest. Only 36.31% of people in Serbia have ever owned or used it, while a clear majority haven’t tried it at all.

Curiosity Drives Interest in Cryptocurrency

Interest in cryptocurrency seems more like curiosity than strong excitement. Over half of the population wants to learn more about digital currencies, even though they don't own any. However, not everyone is keen—small groups aren’t interested in cryptocurrency or cautious or worried about potential risks.

Cash Remains the Preferred Payment Method

Cash remains the most common payment method in Serbia, with most people preferring to use it whenever possible. However, modern payment options are gradually gaining traction, with a significant number of individuals storing credit card information on their phones or computers. The use of cryptocurrency for purchases remains niche, with only 11.94% of the population having used it to buy something.

Binance Leads Exchanges, Bitcoin Stays on Top

Regarding cryptocurrency exchanges, Binance is by far the most popular platform in Serbia, with Coinbase trailing significantly behind. Other platforms, such as KuCoin and Kraken, each hold a smaller share of users. Interestingly, non-crypto-focused platforms like PayPal are beginning to enter the space. As for the cryptocurrencies being traded, Bitcoin is the clear leader in Serbia, while Ethereum holds a much smaller market share..
