Channel Mix Preferences Across Italian Christmas Spending Segments
Christmas gift purchasing involves a range of channel decisions, from exclusively physical retail to fully digital transactions. The balance consumers strike between in-store and online shopping is shaped by budget size, product type, and personal convenience priorities, making spending level a meaningful lens through which to examine channel allocation behaviour.
The most notable pattern across Italian Christmas shoppers is the concentration of preference around blended channel behaviour, yet the composition of that blend varies meaningfully by spending level. Among mid-to-high spenders in the $500–$999 bracket, half opt for an equal in-store and online split, a notably higher share than any other group. High-spending consumers at $1,000 or more stand apart in a different way: one in three report shopping mostly or exclusively online, a markedly stronger digital orientation than lower-spending segments. Conversely, those spending under $99 are more likely to shop exclusively in stores than any other group. This pattern suggests that channel strategy in gift retail may need to be calibrated not just by category but by expected transaction value, with digital touchpoints warranting greater investment for higher-spending customer segments.
