Services Sector Contribution to GDP in Egypt (1990-2022)

Egypt’s services sector displayed fluctuations from 1990 to 2022, with notable shifts influenced by economic reforms and external factors. Initially, the sector’s contribution to GDP declined, dropping from 49.6% in 1990 to a low of 44.9% in 2003 as the economy focused on industrialization and agriculture. However, the mid-2000s saw a resurgence, with services rebounding to 46.9% in 2007 as tourism, financial services, and telecom expanded. Post-2011, services surged sharply, reaching 51.8% in 2012 amid political instability that impacted agriculture and manufacturing sectors. After peaking at 54.5% in 2016, contributions leveled around 51-53% from 2019 onward. This stability highlights the sector’s response to structural reforms, shifting consumer behavior, and the economic diversification efforts in Egypt.
