Urbanization Growth in Poland from 1990 to 2023

Poland’s urbanization remained relatively stable, with 61.3% in 1990 and slightly decreasing to 60.2% by 2023. Following the transition from a planned to a market economy, Poland faced urban-to-rural migration as economic shifts impacted industrial areas, leading some to relocate to suburban and rural areas. Between 2000 and 2010, urbanization slightly decreased but stabilized post-2015, reflecting a balanced urban-rural development approach. By 2021, Poland saw minor increases in urbanization, with a slight upward trend in 2023 as economic stability returned, although the population largely remained spread across both urban and rural areas.
