Historical Overview of Military Personnel in Ukraine (1990-2016)

Ukraine's military personnel experienced a sharp decline from 1992, following its independence from the Soviet Union. Initial numbers stood at 438,000 but dropped steadily to 130,000 by 2008, reflecting economic challenges and disarmament agreements, such as the Budapest Memorandum.
