A clear preference for rest

While most Singaporeans (71%) clearly prefer relaxation trips, a much higher number than the global average, what stands out is how little interest they show in other types of travel. In Indonesia, for example, after relaxation, many people also enjoy food-focused trips. In Japan, food and culture are also big draws. But in Singapore, only 7% choose culinary trips and just 5% pick cultural ones as their top style. For Singaporeans, travel is primarily a means to unwind, disconnect, and recover, not a way to explore or stimulate.

Taking control of the journey

62% of Singaporeans prefer to plan their trips by themselves, one of the highest rates globally. This behavior goes hand-in-hand with their focus on relaxation. By managing details themselves, they can avoid surprises and shape the experience exactly to their liking.

This is less about adventure, more about personal comfort, control, and avoiding friction.

Investing in quality stays

Adding another layer to their discerning nature, Singaporeans show a clear preference for mid-to-high range lodging. A combined 62% opt for either "Deluxe, 3 or 4 stars" or "Premium, 4 or 5 stars only". This significantly outweighs the 33% who prefer "Budget friendly" options. For them, the hotel is part of the recovery experience. Good beds, privacy, and hassle-free amenities are worth the extra cost.

Staying close, but selective

Most Singaporeans travel within Southeast Asia or East Asia. Proximity certainly matters, less flight time means more time to relax. But this isn’t just about geography. Their behavior shows they’re looking for destinations that are easy to reach, culturally familiar, and offer a smooth, seamless experience.
