How UK Travelers Plan Their Trips in 2025: Self-Reliant and Digital-First

British travelers show a clear preference for handling things on their own.

56% of UK respondents want to arrange their travel by themselves, and 78% book trips online, placing them among the most independent and digitally savvy travel audiences globally.

Unlike in many MENA countries where over a third still rely on travel agencies, UK travelers trust digital tools and personal research to manage their holiday plans.

Where UK Travelers Want to Go: Staying Close to Europe

Despite their confidence in planning, UK travelers tend to stay close to familiar destinations.

Europe dominates their travel intentions, with Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, and Southern Europe as the top picks.

In contrast, long-haul destinations are rarely chosen. Just 4% of UK respondents plan to travel to Southeast Asia, and only 3–4% to the Middle East, North Africa, or East Asia.

UK tourists prefer shorter, nearby flights and culturally familiar regions, even when they have the means and independence to go farther.

Preferred Travel Style: Rest and Recharge Over Discovery

Relaxation is the dominant travel style for UK tourists, with 61% choosing it as the most suitable type of trip. Other travel styles, like cultural experiences, health & wellness, or adventure, are far behind.

Compared to other countries, UK travelers show much less interest in culinary travel or cultural immersion. For example, culinary tourism is chosen by 35% of Japanese and 30% of Indonesians, ten times higher than in the UK. Overall, UK travelers are seeking recovery, not exploration. After years of uncertainty, rest seems more important than risk.
