Agriculture Sector Contribution to GDP in Cambodia (1990-2022)

Cambodia’s agriculture sector initially contributed over 45% to GDP in the 1990s, reflecting its predominantly agrarian economy. A gradual decrease followed, reaching around 22.2% by 2022, as Cambodia diversified toward textiles, tourism, and manufacturing. Significant drops, like from 44.5% in 1996 to 31.1% in 2002, highlight this economic transition, supported by foreign investments and trade agreements.

The agriculture sector saw a slight increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 22.8% in 2021, emphasizing its role in national food security. Despite a smaller GDP share, agriculture remains crucial for employment and rural livelihoods in Cambodia.
