Military Expenditure in Cambodia, 1986-2022

Cambodia's military expenditure sharply increased during the late 1980s, peaking at 4.4% in 1992 as the country grappled with internal conflicts and peacekeeping during the transition from civil war. A subsequent decline to 1.0% by 2006 mirrored Cambodia’s stabilization and economic recovery efforts.

Since 2010, spending has gradually risen, reaching 2.5% in 2020 due to modernization and regional security concerns. Recent years reflect efforts to balance defense needs with economic priorities, with expenditure stabilizing around 2.1–2.3% by 2022.
