Export of Goods Value from Algeria (1990-2023)

Algeria’s export of goods value has been predominantly shaped by the oil and gas sector. In 1990, exports stood at $12.88 billion but gradually declined to $8.89 billion in 1994 amid a drop in global oil prices. The late 1990s saw a recovery, with exports surpassing $13 billion in 1996, supported by rising energy prices. By 2008, exports reached a peak of $79.3 billion during an oil boom, demonstrating Algeria's dependence on hydrocarbons.

The subsequent decade highlighted vulnerabilities in Algeria’s export model. The 2014 oil price crash halved export values to $34.6 billion by 2015. Recovery in 2021 and a surge in global energy demand propelled exports to $65.7 billion in 2022. Diversification efforts remain critical to reducing volatility and achieving sustainable growth.
