Blended Channel Preference in Italian Christmas Gift Shopping
Christmas gift purchasing represents one of the most commercially significant consumer spending periods of the year. In Italy, as in many markets, shoppers have access to both physical retail environments and digital platforms, creating a range of possible purchasing pathways that vary in convenience, experience, and perceived value.
The most notable pattern in Italian Christmas gift shopping intentions is the strong concentration around blended behaviour rather than any single channel. Nearly two thirds of Italian shoppers plan to combine in-store and online purchasing to some degree, with the two hybrid categories accounting for 63% of responses combined. Exclusive commitment to either channel is comparatively rare, with purely online shoppers representing just 4% and exclusively in-store shoppers at 15%. The near-equal split between those who lean toward stores with some online activity (31%) and those who divide spending equally across both (32%) suggests that neither channel commands decisive preference. For retailers and brands, this points to the importance of investing in channel consistency, particularly in product availability, pricing, and service quality across both environments, rather than concentrating resources on a single route to purchase.
