Population Density in Ethiopia from 1990 to 2021

Ethiopia’s population density has consistently increased from 1990 to 2021, reflecting significant demographic changes. Starting at 43 people per square kilometer in 1990, the density rose steadily, reaching 57 people per sq. km by 1995. This growth continued through the late 1990s and early 2000s, driven by a high birth rate and expanding rural populations. By 2010, the density had climbed to 79 people per sq. km. In the 2010s, the increase became more pronounced, reaching 104 by 2020 and 107 by 2021. Ethiopia’s high population growth rate, coupled with agricultural demands and urbanization, has contributed to this continuous rise.
