Population Density in Kenya from 1990 to 2021

Kenya’s population density has grown consistently from 1990 to 2021, reflecting the country's expanding population. In 1990, the density stood at 41 people per square kilometer. Over the next decade, it rose steadily, reaching 54 by 2000. Throughout the early 2000s, the growth continued, with the density climbing to 73 people per sq. km by 2010. By 2021, it reached 93 people per sq. km, underscoring the sustained rise in Kenya’s population. Urbanization, particularly in cities like Nairobi and Mombasa, played a key role in this increase, alongside high birth rates.
