U.S. vs U.K. Inflation: Which Market Has Seen Larger Price Swings? | TGM StatBox
Over more than six decades, the U.S. and U.K. have experienced very different inflation paths. World Bank data show the clearest contrast during the 1970s and early 1980s. U.K. inflation reached about 24.2% in 1975, while the U.S. inflation recorded a lower peak of about 13.5% in 1980. The U.K. also experienced larger year-to-year movements across several periods, giving its historical inflation path a visibly wider range than the U.S. series. The difference became much smaller during the inflation surge of the early 2020s. Annual inflation reached 8.0% in the U.S. and 7.9% in the U.K. in 2022. The paths then separated again, with U.K. inflation remaining higher in 2023 and ending 2024 at 3.3%, compared with 2.9% in the U.S.
