In Poland, there’s a growing curiosity about cryptocurrency, but many remain on the sidelines. Around 43% of people say they’re familiar with it, whether that means hearing about Bitcoin or understanding the basics. Yet, despite this awareness, the number of people actively engaging with cryptocurrencies is much smaller. Only about 28% of Poles have ever owned or used digital currencies.
The motivations behind this hesitation are tied to a mix of skepticism and concerns. A little over half of the population have no interest in cryptocurrency at all, while a sizable portion expresses doubt, worried about the risks involved in investing in such volatile assets. Interestingly, another group is eager to learn more about it, even though they haven’t bought any yet.
If you ask Poles what’s holding them back from adopting cryptocurrency, the answers vary but tend to revolve around security and trust issues. The most common barrier is a lack of understanding. This closely mirrors the concerns about security, as people worried about the safety of their investments in digital currencies. Other concerns include the uncertainty around rules and regulations, and the fact that the value of cryptocurrencies can change rapidly.
As for how people keep their cryptocurrency, most seem to prefer a mix of digital and traditional methods. Just over a third store their assets on exchanges, while a similar number use mobile wallets or apps for convenience. Interestingly, a smaller group stores their cryptocurrency on integrated financial apps, where crypto is just one of many services they manage alongside regular banking.
While digital payments continue to gain ground globally, Poland is no different. A significant portion of people, around 41%, still prefer paying with cash whenever possible. However, digital alternatives are catching up, with about 16% storing credit card information on their phones for quick payments. Despite these advances in mobile payment methods, the use of cryptocurrency for purchases remains rare, with only about 6% of Poles having used it to make a transaction. The growing familiarity with cryptocurrency does not yet translate into widespread adoption for everyday purchases.
