More Pets, More Choices: APAC Pet Ownership 2026 | TGM StatBox

One pet means one set of routines. Add another, and daily life gets a little more complicated. There are more mouths to feed, more care needs to manage, and more decisions to make.

For many households across Asia Pacific, pets are already part of everyday life.

According to TGM StatBox data, 62% of surveyed consumers across APAC own at least one pet. Among pet owners, more than half have multiple animals, while dog owners also consider practical factors such as living space and ease of care when choosing their companions.

Together, these findings offer a closer look at how APAC consumers make room for their pets.

1. Nearly Two in Three APAC Consumers Own Pets

Pet ownership is a common part of household life across Asia Pacific.

According to TGM StatBox's Pet Ownership Rates across Asia Pacific in 2026, 62% of surveyed consumers currently own at least one pet, compared with 38% who do not (N=7,342).

The finding highlights the size of the pet-owning audience across the surveyed markets. For pet businesses, there is already a substantial consumer base with ongoing needs for food, healthcare, grooming and other pet-related products and services.

However, ownership rates only tell part of the story.

Knowing how many consumers have pets is a useful starting point, but understanding how those pets fit into households can reveal more about purchasing needs and everyday care priorities.

2. One Pet? More Than Half of APAC Owners Have More

Having just one furry companion is not the most common arrangement among surveyed APAC pet owners.

According to TGM StatBox data, 55% own two or more pets, compared with 45% who own just one.

For these households, pet care can involve managing different feeding schedules, health needs, grooming routines and supplies for more than one animal.

It also raises an interesting question for pet businesses: Are products and services designed around individual pets, or around the households caring for them?

A family with three pets can have very different purchasing needs compared with someone caring for just one, even when they own the same type of animal.

3. When Choosing a Dog, Size Matters

How do APAC dog owners decide which dog fits their lifestyle?

According to TGM StatBox 2026 data, medium-sized dogs are the most commonly owned size category, reported by 43% of surveyed dog owners, followed closely by small dogs at 39%.

Larger dogs have their place, but the popularity of small and medium-sized companions raises another question: What makes these sizes appealing?

The answer goes beyond appearance or breed preference.

When asked why they chose a dog of a particular size, 43% of dog owners cited ease of management, while 41% pointed to suitability for their living space.

These findings suggest that everyday convenience plays an important role in dog ownership decisions. Owners are considering whether a dog can comfortably fit into their home and daily schedule.

4. Pet Ownership Looks Different Across Households

The findings point to different aspects of the same market.

Pet ownership is widespread among surveyed APAC consumers, and keeping multiple animals is common among those who own pets. At the same time, dog owners place considerable importance on how manageable a pet will be.

Of course, owning multiple pets does not automatically mean choosing smaller dogs. Household size, living conditions, personal preferences and the type of pets owned can all influence these decisions.

Country-level differences also deserve attention.

For example, South Korea's pet ownership patterns tell a different story, with 70% of Korean pet owners keeping just one pet.

For brands, this is a useful reminder that an APAC-wide average is only one part of the picture. The number of pets in a household and the reasons behind ownership choices can provide additional context when understanding consumers.

What This Means for Pet Care Brands

The opportunity for pet businesses goes beyond knowing how many consumers own dogs or cats.

  • Household composition matters. Consumers caring for multiple animals can have different needs when it comes to product quantities, purchasing frequency and care services. Multi-pet bundles or household-level offers are worth exploring.
  • Practical benefits deserve attention. With ease of management and living space among the leading reasons behind dog size choices, brands can benefit from highlighting convenience, usability and suitability for different home environments.
  • One APAC strategy will not fit every market. Understanding pet ownership by country, household size and pet type can help businesses identify more relevant consumer segments and opportunities.

The next question is what these preferences look like within individual markets.

Whether you want to compare single- and multi-pet owners or better understand the choices behind pet ownership, TGM StatBox offers consumer insights across APAC to support your research.
