In the UK, cryptocurrency adoption reflects a balance between awareness and skepticism. When surveyed about their familiarity with digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, 34.5% of respondents reported having knowledge of them. However, a larger segment admitted to having no understanding of these assets, while the remaining portion had some awareness but limited engagement. This shows that while cryptocurrency is becoming more well-known, many people still aren’t fully in the loop.
When it comes to actually using cryptocurrency, the numbers are even lower, with a large 65.5% having never tried it. This reveals a significant gap between awareness and adoption—people may know about cryptocurrency, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're eager to get involved. For those who have yet to use it, hesitation seems to be the main barrier. Among those who have used cryptocurrency, most turn to well-known platforms like Coinbase and Binance, while other platforms, such as Crypto.com and eToro, are less commonly used.
Some people are curious and want to learn more but haven’t bought or used any. On the other hand, more than half have no interest at all, and another group is worried about the risks. These concerns often revolve around security, value changes, and trust issues, making it clear that while curiosity exists, fear of the unknown holds many people back.
One of the biggest things stopping people from using cryptocurrency is fear of security issues, with 43.8% of respondents mentioning this. Another big concern is not fully understanding how it works, with the largest proportion saying it’s a barrier. People also worry about its unpredictable value or are concerned about the unclear rules and regulations around it. Even if people know about it, there are still many practical and emotional obstacles that prevent them from jumping in.
Bitcoin is by far the most used cryptocurrency, with Ethereum coming next at 7.9%. After that, the numbers drop sharply, with smaller coins like Dogecoin and Sweatcoin mentioned by very few people.
